The Design of the BOA Ski Boots
High-Performance Sport Design
The “K2 Recon 120 BOA®” model was developed in collaboration with K2 to introduce the first generation of ski boots featuring BOA® lacing technology, a groundbreaking innovation in the industry, designed to deliver a high-performance ski boot with a bold, sporty aesthetic. Leveraging Delineo Design’s deep expertise in the world of sports, the design of the BOA ski boots embody the essence of sport design.
The BOA® system securely locks the foot into the boot by rotating a dial that progressively tightens a set of cables running across the boot at various points over the top of the foot. By pulling up on the dial, the pressure is released, allowing the user to easily remove their foot from the boot.
This technology has been praised for its ease of use and improved performance, as the pressure exerted during boot closure is distributed uniformly, unlike traditional systems. Ski boots have certainly evolved from the leather models worn by mountaineering enthusiasts in the early 20th century.

The K2 Recon 120 also features other fascinating technical specifications. In addition to BOA® technology, the boot boasts a thermoformable liner that offers the perfect balance between comfort and support. It ensures correct heel support, and the seamless toe box facilitates the fitting process. It includes customizable heel inserts to best adapt the fit for every type of foot, improving performance.
In addition, the Recon 120 BOA® features a Harshmellow™ insert for improved impact absorption. All these characteristics come together to create a truly innovative boot model destined to influence ski technology in future seasons! Born from the fusion of sport design and product design, Delineo handled the development of the Concept, sketches, 3D Modeling, Textures, User Experience Analysis, and 2D-3D rendering.
Mindbender BOA: Off-Piste for Those Who Challenge Limits
This boot was designed to tackle the most demanding freeride challenges. Its advanced structure, featuring a Y-shaped rear support and the Powerlock Spyne mechanism, offers superior lateral stiffness, ideal for off-piste descents.
The BOA Fit System, with its precise micro-adjustments, allows for a perfect fit, while the flexibility it offers enables fluid movement even on uneven terrain. Designed for skiers seeking maximum control and performance in extreme conditions, the Mindbender is the perfect ally for the most daring fresh snow adventures.

The brand continued its pioneering efforts by expanding into snowboards in 1987 and was the first brand to design women-specific products starting in 1999 through its Women’s AllianceTM collection. Today, the company is re-setting its K2 brand for the future to reposition itself as an industry leader.
