Interior Design of the Innovative AW609 Tiltrotor
AgustaWestland & Finmeccanica Leonardo
AW 609 is the tiltrotor developed by AgustaWestland and Finmeccanica/Leonardo. We designed its interior fittings as part of a competition organized by Interni Magazine.
Flydeas for the city was a competition launched by Interni Magazine in collaboration with AgustaWestland and Finmeccanica for the interior design of the innovative AW609 tiltrotor—a vehicle that combines the capabilities of a helicopter with those of an airplane. Delineo was one of only five studios worldwide selected to participate in the competition. The contest, which included prominent figures like Gilda Bojardi and Stefano Giovannoni, concluded with an event held on April 6, 2016, at the Museo della Scienza e della Tecnica in Milan.
For such an innovative project, it seemed of fundamental importance from the very beginning to propose a flexible design, where the setup for business travel could be converted into a module for leisure trips. We sought to unite two worlds that appear distant but, to a certain extent, find balance in the middle. The commitments, the work, the appointments. The desire to enjoy the rewards and take a moment for oneself. In two words, the union of the corporate world and the VIP world.
The project’s forms are a direct representation of their analysis on paper. By considering potential needs, we identified the main spatial characteristics required for these environments. We started from a simple, yet not trivial, point: the primary function that this interior design project fulfills. This involves movement from one point to another which, depending on the two spheres, requires, on one hand, the necessity for quick and rapid transit; on the other, the desire to travel in a state of total comfort.
